Help us shape the future of Whitireia Park

Over the next couple of months we are asking for comments that will help us to develop a new management plan for Whitireia Park.

Located in the Porirua Basin, Whitireia Park is a prominent headland with amazing views for those who walk, bike, rock climb, play golf take a picnic, swim at the Park or even live nearby. It is similar to other regional parks in that it is much larger than city parks and offers adventure in an unmanicured environment. It's home to some unique plants and there are a number of restoration efforts underway. Not to mention, it has a long Maori history dating back to Kupe's canoe anchoring here and in more recent years home to Ngati Toa.

Since its inception, Whitireia has been managed by a Park Board. Previously, the Board was assisted by the Department of Conservation under the 1978 Whitireia Park Management Plan. In recent years, with the Ngati Toa Treaty Settlement being finalised, the make up of the Boa rd and day to day administration is now through Ngati Toa and Greater Wellington Regional Council.

The Whitireia Park Board are seeking feedback on what people value about the park and views on how it should be cared for over the next 10 years. This feedback will assist the Board in the preparation of a draft plan expected early next year.
