Due to wind conditions and safety concerns, the youth slalom clinic which is being held this Saturday, December 17th, will be at LAKE PUPUKE instead of Takapuna Beach as originally advertised.

Taranaki Wave Classic 2011 - update

If you’ve entered this year’s Taranaki Wave Classic you’ll be pleased to know that over the past month Taranaki’s wind and wave gods have been delivering the goods, with the locals enjoying great sessions at all their favourite spots, including some classic Waitara and Pungarehu action. Yep – you heard it right – Pungas is back online for the new season, complete with solid swell and the occasional orca coasting by. We’ve even had a few Aucklanders do the hell day mission down here to score some great Waitara conditions and get in some sneaky pre-TWC practice!

Murrays Bay Learn to Windsurf Group

Murrays Sailing Club will be starting a learn to windsurf group in conjunction with Madloop windsurf school. This will be open to sailors from 8 to 15 years.
The group will start out with lessons at the Madloop wind surf school from the 30th October and then the group will continue on at Murrays Bay after Christmas. The aim is to get more sailors racing the Techno 293 Board.

If you already know how to windsurf but now want to learn to race we will also form a green fleet group that you can join to gain windsurfing experience and learn to race.

The winds are stronger, the days are longer so its time to get that windsurfer thats been lurking in your garage out. Check everything is still working and safe, and get back onto the water.

Starting with the Taranaki Wavesailing Classic, one of New Zealands biggest and most social event on the windsurfing calendar, this week will feature a number of activities around the country to mark the start of the 'windsurfing season'.

Nevin Sayre - Broadening the scope of junior programs

Before Nevin Sayre was a five-time U.S. National Windsurfing Champion, he was a four time college sailing All-American. Sayre not only understands the competitive side of sailing, he understands that competition isn’t what sailing is all about. So it is no shock to him that the sport in the U.S. is struggling to turn youth sailors into life sailors, because the focus in most junior programs is to turn youth sailors into youth racers. Here he explains:
