Kendall Cup Amendments - 2011-2012 Series

2010-2011 was the first season of the Kendall Cup series for NZ Techno sailors. We indicated that we hoped to learn from the first season and make improvements where possible. We received some helpful feedback about the running of some of the events, and the difficulty of new sailors being pushed up into the next age division for the spring regattas.

NZ Techno Windsurfers gain invaluable experience at San Francisco Worlds

Last month a group of 7 New Zealand junior windsurfers travelled to San Francisco to compete in the Techno293 World Championships along with Kate Ellingham as coach. Their skill level ranged from current and former National Champions to relative beginners on the Techno but all of the sailors had a common aim of learning from the large fleet racing.

Young NZ windsurfers off to World Champs

Seven young windsurfers plus coach are heading over to San Francisco this week for the 2011 Techno 293 World Championships. Based at the St Francis Yacht Club, directly in front of the Golden Gate bridge, the event runs from 17 to 24 July. The kiwi sailors, four boys and three girls, are all in their mid-teens, and come from sailing clubs in Whangaparaoa, Auckland, Tauranga and Christchurch. Their coach, Kate Ellingham from Devonport, is a former NZ number one in the Olympic RS:X class.

Prizes awarded for Kendall Cup Techno Series

The Kendall Cup is a new regatta series designed to promote the youth windsurfing class (Bic Techno 293) in New Zealand. Launched by Barbara Kendall last August, the 2010-2011 season series was held over seven regattas in Auckland and Tauranga from the Winter Champs in October to the Super City Regatta in April.

A small but committed fleet of up to 12 young windsurfers competed in each event with 1 regatta discard allowed for the final points tally.
