Yachting New Zealand seems to have scored a coup in the NZ Parliamentary process, lodging one of the submissions in favour of having part of the Excise Tax paid on fuel used in boats returned to the sport. It would appear that YNZ's submission and others have received a good hearing and the outcome is that around $25million will be returned to the boating community to be spent on boating safety and water safety education.

Yachting New Zealand is pleased to announce the 2008 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team today. This team of ten sailors will travel to Arhus, Denmark in July to represent New Zealand at the ISAF Youth World Championships. The 2008 ISAF Youth World Championships is set to be one of the biggest ever with 59 nations and 250 sailors already signed up to compete in Denmark from 10-19 July.

Yachting New Zealand seeks expressions of interest in the filling the role of High Performance Sailing Coach for their core HP Academy operations. Applicants should have exceptional organizational and communication skills and proven experience at international competition in Olympic classes. A demonstrated ability to lead High Performance athletes and a high degree technical knowledge in the Olympic Board Sailing disciplines would be an advantage. The successful applicant will become a part of the YNZ High Performance Coaching Team in instrumental in developing New Zealand’s future & current champions in Olympic and international youth classes.

Today the racing divides into the Gold and Silver fleets, with the top performers from the Blue and Yellow fleets going into Gold, the remainder into Silver. The start order will be: Men - Gold followed by Women - Gold. The silver fleets will not start before 1400hrs… Men - Silver followed by Women Silver.
Windsurfers at the 2008 RS:X World Championships waited ashore with another postponement on day three of the regatta until a breeze filled from the south and racing started just before 2 o’clock. The local sailors lead with both Tom Ashley and Barbara Kendall topping the leader board going into the rest day.
The men’s fleet were first on the water sailing race five of the eleven race series then making way for the women’s fleet to race. A second race for both men and women followed.
Variable conditions - variable results. Barbara Kendall records 2 and 2 in Blue Group while Allesandra Sensini takes a 3 in Yellow. Tom Ashley comes in 13 and 4 in the Mens Blue Group - more later
