Army major and windsurfer Ashutosh Tripathi would get the opportunity to fly the Indian flag on his sail at next year's world championship, a qualification round for the 2008 Olympics to be held in New Zealand. India has been chosen as the leader nation at the world championship. Besides India, England, Germany and Israel can also fly their respective flags. Tripathi bagged seventh place in Bali International Windsurfing Contest held recently and stood 24th in the Asian Championships 2007.

The New Zealand RS:X National Championships will boast an impressive starting line-up when racing starts this Friday off Takapuna Beach, North Shore City. Plenty of top international windsurfers are already in the country for the RS:X World Championships in January and will compete in this weekend’s Nationals as preparation. Over 60 windsurfers are already entered and with international competitors arriving into New Zealand daily, organisers of the National Championships are anticipating that around 80 windsurfers will take part. Just 20 to 30 of the expected total are New Zealanders with the majority being internationals here early for the World Championships.

Early in the New Year windsurfers from around the world will converge on North Shore City to battle it
out for the world titles.

The announcement follows British Airways' decision to review its baggage handling policy, resulting in the airline deciding it would no longer be offering free surfboard carriage for holidaymakers not travelling through the specialist surfing tour operators it worked with.

RYA reports with effect from 6 November, 2007, British Airways has announced that it will no longer carry certain items of sporting equipment ? including windsurfers.

Windsurfing and similar publicity methods allegedly used by press photographers to humiliate candidates are not specifically identified as crimes although some say these techniques could qualify as cruel and inhumane.
