Tamara Bockius Wins Maui County Championships on Carbon Art.

The 26th annual Maui Race Series has been running smoothly. The first 4 events have been completed, The Starboard Slalom, DaKine Classic, MFC Open and Quicksilver Cup. The Hawaii State Championships are scheduled for July 31st. This year there were a few heat postponements due to lack of wind and an occasional deflated or run away buoy but for the most part we had good slalom racing with lots of Pro Sailors and a seasoned Race committee.

Barbara’s Bash - Takapuna Boating Club celebration and club fundraising

Takapuna Boating Club welcome people to join them at the Yacht Club Barbara Kendall’s Bash on Thursday August 5th between 6 and 9pm. This will be a celebration of Barbara’s enduring Olympic career as she moves to having more time for the family and her volunteer roles with the International Olympic Committee. Barbara is New Zealand’s most decorated Olympian and retiring after 24 years at the top.

National Ocean Water Sports Centre - public information evening

National Ocean Water Sports Centre, Project Information Evening, Takapuna War Memorial Hall, 29th July, 2010, 4pm – 6pm
The Harbour Access Trust, North Shore City Council and Central Government are working towards putting Takapuna on the world stage as a venue for sailing and other ocean sports by developing the National Ocean Water Sports Centre on The Strand. On Thursday 29th July between 4pm and 6pm representatives will be present at Takapuna War Memorial Hall for the first o a number of public sessions to highlight progress on the project.

North Shore to host Sail Auckland 2011

Sail Auckland, the only ISAF Grade 1 regatta for Olympic classes in New Zealand, will be sailed from Auckland’s North Shore in 2011. Agreement has been reached between Sail Auckland Regatta Inc and the Takapuna Boating Club, which has been granted rights to host the 2011 regatta to take place from February 3rd to February 6th.

SPARC calls for adventurers to come forward

Adventurers are being encouraged to turn their dreams into reality by applying for grants under the Hillary Expeditions initiative run by Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC). Chief executive Peter Miskimmin said today adventurous Kiwis planning challenging outdoor expeditions could now apply for funding. Up to $100,000 is available through Hillary Expedition Grants, which are made available every two years.

At just 77 grams per piece, the Slot Box could be the best way to shed some weight this season! Leading manufacturers, Starboard and Tabou have recently announced the launch of a new light weight fin box, which is to be incorporated into their multifin boards. But, they also hope that it will replace the current industry standard, the US Box in the not too distant future.

Gold and Silver for Youth Team in Turkey

New Zealand has produced two medals – one gold and one silver - at the 2010 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships which has just concluded in Istanbul, Turkey overnight. Our RS:X windsurfers were unable to improve their positions but sailed consistently.

Finally the wind came the party in Turkey on the penultimate day of racing where the twelve sailors in the NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team are competing. Plenty of racing was possible, which sees some changes in the standings, as the world’s premier youth regatta heads into the its final day for 2010 when the podium places will be decided.
