2004 WINDSURF GRAND PRIX RACING AND SLALOM CIRCUITS

PRESS RELEASE
January 1st 2004 - (Sanctioned by the IFWC & IFCA) Both the International Funboard Class and the International Formula Windsurfing Class have healthy and growing tours in Europe. However, both Classes realise that in order to continue to develop windsurf racing, there is a need to widen the accessibility, scope and quality, of their events in other parts of the World. This development drive comes with a clear message to windsurfers, and event management companies everywhere which is that we must work together to ensure successful continental tours are built round each Grand Prix event. The quality of each one will provide a professional foothold and legacy in each of the major markets and act as a major draw for up and coming racers who wish to prove and improve their ability.

OLYMPIC EQUIPMENT EVALUATION

Following the first part of the Olympic Windsurfing Equipment Evaluation Event in Cadiz in September 2003, the application form for designs to be entered into the second phase, in Torbole, Italy, is now online. The objective of the Equipment Evaluation Event is to identify suitable equipment to be selected for use at the 2008 Olympic Regatta, Beijing.

In order to achieve the best results, ISAF will choose a balance of men and women sailors from a wide range of weights, geographic regions and disciplines to participate in the Evaluation Event. Current Olympic class sailors, professionals and Formula class sailors will be invited to help evaluate the equipment in a wide range of conditions including heavy air and light air sailing, course racing and slalom and speed tests.
