Sailor Selected for Athens Olympic Youth Camp

Boardsailor, Hayley Thom, a seventeen year old Aucklander has been named as one of two New Zealanders selected by the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) to attend an International Olympic Youth Camp to be held in Athens in August.

If its raining, we'll postpone to the following Sunday.

Stolen cars and gear - Auckland

Just a quick note on a situation that has developed over the weekend. It's 4pm Monday and the fourth person has just walked in to report his car and windsurfing gear stolen form Mission Bay and Tamaki sailing Club. All four rigged up, sailed off the beach on Saturday only to come back and find everything gone. Someone has been watching us to be so well planned. Take care. WSP (Windsurfing South Pacific)

Thomas Ashley to go to Olympics for Mens Mistral

The men’s Mistral was also fought to the end. With Ashley and Wells on equal points leading into the final race the pressure was on. Current IMCO Youth World Champion, 19 year old Devonport sailor Tom Ashley was the eventual winner of the trial, a mere one point ahead of James Wells, with Jon-Paul Tobin a further four points behind. Sponsors youth sailor to clinic

The Racing Committee of Windsurfing New Zealand considered that the Coaching Clinics being conducted by the PWA World Champion Micah Buzianis, who will be in New Zealand to compete at the Formula Windsurf Nationals at Gulf Harbour February 1 to 7 2004, to good an opportunity to let slip.They agreed that WNZ should fund a Youth sailor to the Clinics & to this end have chosen Nick Litchwark who will now be going to the clinic, much to his suprise.This choice was enthusiastically endorsed by WNZ general committee Nick is very excited to have been given this chance & will be reporting back to us after the coaching.

Auckland Formula Championships Report & 2003 Auckland Race Series Overall Results

The second annual Auckland Formula Championships were held last weekend (17-18 January). Despite a less than promising forecast, which nevertheless was enough to at least send competitors to the beach, sailing conditions turned out to be near perfect for the penultimate
round of the 2003 Auckland Race Series.
