National Youth Clinic for 2010

Registrations are invited for the first National Youth Clinic for 2010 planned for the 5th, 6th and 7th of October – one day after Winter Champs. This National Youth Clinic, to be held at Murrays Bay Sailing Club on Auckland’s North Shore, offers coaching in the 420, Laser Radial and RS:X 8.5 classes.

World Champs Update: Four sailors in the top four including Ashley and Tobin in RS:X

Olympic class World Championships racing continued overnight in both Kerteminde, Denmark for the RS:X Men and Women, and at Hayling Island for the Lasers. New Zealand has four sailors currently place within the top four and despite Ashley and Bullot slipping from the top spot in their respective events they are both well in touch with the leaders as are Jon-Paul Tobin and Josh Junior.

In stark contrast to yesterday’s marginal winds, so conditions came alive on the Bay of Kerteminde , Denmark , for day two of the RS:X World Championships with 20 knot winds and brilliant sunshine. While China with 8 sailors dominates the Women’s RS:X, New Zealand holds the top two spots in the Men’s class, with Beijing gold medallist Tom Ashley on 14, just a point ahead of team mate Jon-Paul Tobin, tied for second with Greece’s Byron Kokalanis and Poland’s Przemyslaw Miarczynski.

It was a long day on the water for sailors at the 2010 RS:X World Championships where racing kicked off last night in Kerteminde, Denmark. Tom Ashley is in third place and Jon-Paul Tobin in ninth at this early stage in the six day series. The women’s fleet never left the beach.

The first round of the 2010 / 2011 WWA Freewave competition will be held in September between 4th and 26th. (which weekend date to be confirmed). The Freewave three-round format is a mixture of freestyle and waves depending on the wind and sailing venue on the day. Olympic class 2010 RS:X Men’s and Women’s RS:X World Championships in Denmark are all soon to get underway.

Four Olympic class World Championship Regattas will be sailed simultaneously at three different venues over the coming week, each featuring some of New Zealand’s hottest talent. The 2010 Finn Gold Cup in San Francisco, the 2010 Laser World Championships in Great Britain and the 2010 RS:X Men’s and Women’s RS:X World Championships in Denmark are all soon to get underway.

Change Of Role Leaves Olympic Windsurfing Champion Worry-Free

Wearing her crop top, board shorts, sunglasses and sports cap, recently retired New Zealand windsurfing legend Barbara Kendall could still pass for a competitor, but in Singapore she is staying on shore as a Youth Olympic Games athlete role model. Kendall participated in five Olympic Games, picking up the full set of medals with a gold, silver and bronze.
