RS:X Olympic Class Windsurfing Worlds - Gold and Silver Fleet races begin

Today the racing divides into the Gold and Silver fleets, with the top performers from the Blue and Yellow fleets going into Gold, the remainder into Silver. The start order will be: Men - Gold followed by Women - Gold. The silver fleets will not start before 1400hrs… Men - Silver followed by Women Silver.

Today, Friday and Saturday the top three placed sailors in the Women’s and Men’s fleets will be presented with a coloured vest and sail sticker to wear on the water for the day. This will happen at 10am in front of the sponsor board on the grass outside the yacht club.

Yellow Vest: Overall leader will wear a yellow vest and a yellow disc on their sail

Blue Vest: Second placed sailor will wear a blue vest and a blue disc on their sail

Red Vest: Third placed sailor will wear a red vest and a red disc on their sail

Olympic Qualification

Men – With nine Olympic places up for grabs at this event, Australia , Korea , Russia and Thailand have already confirmed a place each as they have a sailor within the Gold fleet.

Indonesia, Croatia , Slovakia , Estonia , Lithuania , Venezuela , Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic , Colombia , Solvenia , Bulgaria , Sweden , Latvia , India and Ireland will fight it out in the Silver fleet for the remaining five places to be decided.

Women – Seven Olympic places are to be decided for women at this event and twelve nations are here fighting for qualification. None of those twelve nations made it through to the women’s gold fleet so it’s still all to play for.

Thailand, Mexico , Hungary , Argentina , Russia , USA , Armenia , Cyprus , Turkey , Estonia , Uruguay and Croatia will fight it out in the women’s silver fleet.


WindGuru predicts light variable winds through the morning which will fill in from the south and tend south westerly this afternoon. Wind strength is predicted to reach 7-8 knots during the afternoon. A high of 23 degrees is predicted.
