Tornadoes out of 2012 Olympics with NZ help?

Last Friday the ISAF Council controversially voted against any Multihull Event for the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in Britain. The fastest and most spectacular sailing class alongside the RS:X has been voted out, possibly with the help of NZ.

(updated 14/11) It's now confirmed that NZ voted against the multihulls. There appears to be a conflict of interest between the general spectator appeal of a class and its usefulness in attracting more to the sport vs the view that NZ is stronger in the keel-boat / match racing area and has more chance of winning a medal.

There is now an online petition protesting at what appears to be an unpopular decision made in the face of advice to the contrary from several groups. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/multihullinolympics/index.html
