Hi Team, Just been… 2003 World Championships Cadiz, Spain
The World Championships for 2003 incorporated all the Olympic Sailing disciplines racing at the one venue (Cadiz, Spain). In the men’s Olympic Boardsailing 118 athletes were primed to perform for the 2003 World Championship title.
Entry limit for the men’s boardsailing discipline in 2003 was set @ 120 New Zealand was allocated 4 spots. Race day one arrived with the Le Vente in @ full force (Le Vente meaning “The Wind” originates from Africa)
Polish board sailor Przemek Miarczynski (Pont) was a devastating force in the strong wind conditions completing dominating the series of races; Pont is the big man of Olympic Boardsailing always the man to beat in the wind, showing the world how it is done.
Final race day, one race scheduled with Le Vente making its departure the Sea breeze was working hard to make an appearance. A long wait followed when finally the Sea breeze built enough to make racing possible.
With the Gold Medal gone to Poland (Przemek Miarczynski) 4 athletes including myself were racing for silver Greek: Nikolaos Kaklamanakis, Portuguese: Joao Rodrigues, Israeli: Gal Fridman.
This last race was not my best performance of the Worlds (22) having my closest rivals all finishing ahead meant a podium finish was not going to be possible (this time) dropping from 5th to 7th in the final standings also meant that early qualification to represent New Zealand in Athens was lost.
