FOR 2003 IFCA DECIDES TO FOCUS MORE ON SLALOM AGAIN

Slalom is once again considered as a full discipline with Continentals and
Worlds from 2003 onwards. For some years slalom has been losing out in the
sport due to a lot of races being cancelled because of insufficient wind.
With the recent evolution in slalom boards and rigs IFCA believes that it
is
time to re-launch slalom.
IFCA propose to stage single discipline slalom events as well as to
combine
slalom with course racing (Formula Windsurfing) at racing events with both
disciplines contributing 50% of the final score.

National organizers are advised either to organize Racing events with both
Course Racing (FW) and Slalom scheduled or to schedule slalom only events.

THOSE WISHING TO ACT AS ORGANISERS OF CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE
REQUESTED TO CONTACT IFCA@internationalwindsurfing.com

2002 MISTRAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - PATTAYA - THAILAND - 4-15 December 2002
After a hard fought regatta Gal Fridman (ISR) finally achieved a lifetimes
ambition to win the Mistral Worlds and created a little bit of history in
the process. No Israeli has ever won a World title in an Olympic
discipline
before! It goes without saying that, on his return home, the scenes at
Tel
Avis airport on his return were something special.

Meanwhile, Ricardo "Bimba" Santos also achieved a personal best by
finishing
2nd overall just in front of Julien Bontemps (FRA) who made a terrific
charge at the end to snatch 3rd place from Nikos Kaklamanakis who failed
to
win his 5th world title.

Final Results after 11 (Gold) and 12 (Silver) Men:

1 ISR 18 FRIDMAN Gal (M1975)

2 BRA 1 SANTOS Ricardo (M1980)

3 FRA 6 BONTEMPS Julien (M1979)

Barbara Kendall came back from a two-year lay off to win the women's
worlds
in a big fleet (64) and in the process beat her Sydney 2000 nemesis,
Alessandra Sensini. The only women she did not have to face up to was Lee
Lai Shan who withdrew from the competition with a gastric complaint before
racing began.

Matt Pritchard And Karin Jaggi Scoop The 2002 Overall PWA Freestyle
Titles!
After a grueling year on the men's PWA freestyle tour with four incredible
events in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Canada, and Bonaire Matt Pritchard

been
battling away on the PWA circuit for the last ten years and has finally
achieved one of his main lifetime goals by joining the elite as a PWA
overall Champion.

2002 PWA Freestyle King of the Caribbean Finale - 11-18 December 2002
The PWA freestyle finals concluded in spectacular fashion after Tonki
Frans
(Gaastra, AHD) closed out the event with his final move the Chacho in the
mens' third round final. The move ensured the King of the Caribbean title
for the local sailor in front of his home crowd.

In the women's title chase it was Karin Jaggi (F2, Arrows) who came out on
top after a riveting battle with Colette Guadagnino (JP, Neil Pryde) of
Venezuela. After four rounds of intense competition the two sailors were
neck and neck and the title chase all boiled down to the final heat of the
day
