Snow "Slow to Clear" says MetService

According to MetService, the snow that closed Highway One across Canterbury Plains today may take a while to clear. "This is the third snowfall in a week for some of the higher areas around the Canterbury Plains", commented MetService Weather Ambassador Bob McDavitt. "Some of the first snowfalls have not yet melted.

We expect the rain and snow to ease overnight to just a few light showery falls on Tuesday, but the stuff left lying on the ground may get trapped in ice or frost by Wednesday morning, and this may well be slow to clear."

Mr. McDavitt suggested that travellers across Canterbury and the Southern Alps should check the latest MetService warnings and road conditions and be prepared for some disruption.
