YachtingNZ looking for support for development at Takapuna Beach

Message from YNZ: As many of you will be aware Yachting New Zealand, with the support and drive of the Harbour Access Trust (HAT) (The developer) are endeavouring to build a High performance Centre and new headquarters in conjunction with a secure hard stand for Olympic Classes at Takapuna Beach.

This is an incredibly exciting project for Yachting in New Zealand and the community, and will create a unique facility that will blend and integrate with the environment and reserve.

We need lots of support for this first stage so please file a submission in support of the Yachting New Zealand Hard stand application and forward to whoever you can, requesting they do the same.

Please email kristine@yachtingnz.org.nz for a copy of the proposal diagrams for the hardstand as described further below.

These can be copied into an email and sent to Maureen Buchanan at Auckland Council Maureen.buchanan@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz

Benefits of The Development
• Provision of a purpose built facility for high performance ocean water sports athletes
• Increase the available quality open public space and access to the reserve
• provide improved public amenities and storage for community groups
• Provision for a space to hold community activities and/or events

Funding has been provided through the generosity and support of Auckland Council, SPARC and the New Zealand Community Trust

Stage 1: the Hard Stand
Resource consent for the Yachting New Zealand hard stand has been granted. This first stage of the total project is now in process and as you will see below, Yachting New Zealand is seeking to have a lease and licence to occupy granted following an independent commissioners report and subsequent referral to the Minister of Conservation for final approval.

Yes this has been a long drawn out process to date and one that will be repeated once we seek resource consent for the National Ocean Water Sports Centre (NOWSC) Stage 2.

The public submission process is now open for eight weeks closing February 10.

In anticipation of your support for this project I would like to thank you all very much.

Kind regards
David Abercrombie
Yachting New Zealand CEO
