You are required to be a member of an affiliated club to take part in WNZ sanctioned events - this is a requirement of the insurance cover WNZ provides to clubs. Events may also require you to have a sail number.

Rena disaster - what can you do to help?

Anyone wishing to help the oil recovery effort or report oil should contact 0800 645 774.
Maritime New Zealand are urging people stay off local beaches, saying those ''playing with oil'' and attempting to clean it up are hampering the official Rena response team. Sightings of any affected wildlife should be reported it to 0800 333 771.

This is an 18 hour course. This allows full content of course to be learned and practiced thoroughly before Instructors gain their qualification and teach 'real' students, and for the course timetable to be tailored to make the best of the weather and tide conditions.

Rena New Zealand's worst maritime environmental disaster

Environment Minister Nick Smith has labelled the Rena New Zealand's worst maritime environmental disaster, with oil expected to wash-up on shores for months to come. Since Rena ran aground on Astrolabe Reef off Tauranga last Wednesday, an estimated 350 tonnes of heavy fuel oil has leaked from its ruptured hull into the Bay of the Plenty. More than 1300 tonnes and 200 tonnes of diesel is still on board. Fears the ship would break up and its 1368 containers fall in to the sea have been growing as bad weather continues.

Another magic Tauranga morning raised a few concerns early on, but those enthusiastic competitors who had made the effort to roll down to Fergusson Park early were more than happy to register and wait. Along with Alexander from A’ND Distribution, some of Auckland’s finest sailors had also made the trip down for a bit of ‘Bay action’.

Tauranga Spring Racing - it's all on!

Here is a quick reminder about the fun windsurfing to be had this weekend at Fergy Park.
The wind is looking promising, especially the early to late arvo.
There will be a Coffee Cart serving up the morning caffeine hit and snacks.

Kick of is at 10am, this is for registrations, an explanation of how the fun racing will work but also hits and tips on tactics and going fast :) Not to mention to get a good look at some great kit that’s on its way for us all to check out.
