Stand Up Paddling (SUP)

Stand up paddling was originally popular in the 1960s and has had a relatively recent revival. Basically it involves standing up on a large surfboard and paddling with a long handled 'outrigger' type paddle. Popular amongst windsurfers as a backup activity for occasions when there is not enough wind, its also a sport and activity which is accessible to most and provides a good 'core workout' for general fitness and health. SUP can be done on flat water or surf, and some SUP boards have fittings to allow the use of a windsurfer rig.
