Southern Lakes Wind Riders Season 2017/18

Time to dust off your gear!
Hope you start early and get lots of sailing in this season. Remember the South coast waters are a lot warmer than the lake, might be worth a visit to Colac Bay/Monkey Island/Oreti/Riverton…

AGM 2017/18

When: Monday 6th November, from 7:30PM
Where: The World Bar, back room
Snacks provided to encourage you along and in case you miss dinner.

What do you want out of the club this year? Come along and help us plan!

Unfortunately last year things were a bit quiet… We started with a hiss and a roar with great attendance at the Open Day, many new members, lots of social media attention, special support for club beginners and a windless but fun social day at Jardines but then… key club officials had no free time and so it fizzled out earlier than hoped. Thanks to Zi for her huge efforts as Secretary.

Lets make sure this year we have lots of fun things to do together and a team to help out.

Start of the Season Social and Open Day
There’ll be a start of season BBQ/Open Day soon at Frankton Beach. So whether you ever sail here or not do make it along for a BBQ and social get together. We’ll provide the saussies you bring the beers. Date tbc soon.

Renew your membership
Don't forget to renew your Membership for the season. You can do that through our online form or in person at the AGM!

SLWRC teamed up with local and not so local businesses to offer you discounted gear and services. We are planning to add more benefits but so far we can confirm:
10-20% off when buying gear from Small Planet
free shipping and a minimum of 10% discount at Watercooled
10% discount at Kitesports
10% off kitesurfing lessons with Kitesports in Christchurch (that's a $65 saving for a beginner course and your membership reimbursed right there!)
10% off with Queenstown Mountain Guides

To renew your membership please fill out the 2017/18 Membership Form and pay the membership fee to the club's account:
Southern Lakes Windriders Club
account number: 06 0996 0589491
Put your full name as a reference

SLWRC membership year runs 1st October to 31st September. If you join in July, August or September you can transfer the membership over at no extra charge by renewing it in person at the AGM.

Jardines Access
Be very careful if driving to Jardines. There are a lot of new road works and diversions at the bottom of the field after the cattle grid as the developers have started more infrastructure work. Drive slowly and follow the new track and then you can make your way back to the road before the final gate. This is likely to carry on for sometime.

At present there are lots of new “Keep out” signs re the building site. However we were assured last year by the new owners that the club would continue to have access to the reserve area, so just please politely point this out if any workers try to stop you accessing the area. Give them my number if there are any issues and I’ll liaise again with the developers (Sue 027 640 8596).

Email from Clarke Fortune Mc Donald 14/2/17 representing the owners: “On behalf of the land owner: All good. The Club can continue to use the beach as per when the Jardines owned the land as long as you could continue the gate shutting and cleaning up any associated rubbish.”

Club Gear
Just a quick reminder of the club gear. Free for members with appropriate membership option.

Windsurf beginner gear
Windsurf Intermediate Gear.
SUP - Inflatable board and paddle, with adjustable plate which allows a windsurf rig to be added.
4m Trainer Kite. You need an experienced club member to supervise this.
The club also has a Go Pro camera and helmet attachment for any members to borrow. It’s very user friendly and lots of fun.
All club gear; windsurf, trainer kite and SUP are at the same venue in town, Melborne St. (Soft roof racks available). Bookings Phil Hyde 021 232 5457or Christy 022675 1070 Text please.

Let's be social

Don’t forget, the club has a Facebook page to improve networking in the area, posting photos and news, notifying people about events, selling gear locally… check it out, like it and start adding stuff.

There is also a more informal facebook page Queenstown Kite Surfers & Windsurfers, this is a closed group and is used for day to day wind reports and liaison about where people are sailing. This replaces the old wind text alerts for the regulars. If anyone would like to join and has trouble getting an invite write to Sue.
