Southern Lakes Wind Riders - Newsletter

Club weekend trip to the coast. Come rain, snow, hail, wind, sun... some of us are definately going whatever happens. Ken Ring the Moon weather man is predicting wind, so the plan is to sail ideally Colac Bay as this should be good for those newer to wave sailing (at the other end of the beach to the bigger waves) , but it'll depend of course on the wind. We may end up with some people in the estuary at Riverton if it goes nuclear. Or of course, walking, fishing, hanging out at the Beach House Cafe.... are all possible options ! Some of us are planning to stay at a club members holiday house in Riverton (mimimal rent) but there are also great backpackers at Colac Bay. There is a new Watersports Club down there so I'll be letting them know and hopefully a few locals will come along and join us.

I'll be 'camp mother' for the weekend, and while that certainly doesn't mean I'm doing your washing up, I will try to co-ordinate people so we hopefully end up sailing together or at least catching up for tall stories over a few beers. Ring if you want any help with accomodation or for any other queries. Sue 027 640 8596.

Mike Holland our kitesurf co-ordinator (who gets back to town this week from sunnier climes) has kindly offered to give some free onland kite handling sessions with Trainer Kites.... so get in touch and take him up on this generous offer. Thanks Mike.

What a great turnout this year ! Fantastic response, thanks to all for their hard work. So you can now get any kind of car down there without wrecking it. Roll on the westerlies !

Louis Tapper, a kiter from Wellington is raising money for Samoa. Please read the following and see if you would like to support this important cause.
I just completed the Auckland to the bay of Islands (261km) on a kite last week. I have updated a story here and am also raising money for the Red Cross Samoan Tsunami appeal. The link to this is in the blog article. Would you be able to pass this onto the rest of the members to help the donation process along?
