Xmas and New Year Holidays; Lake Aviemore Camping and Social Sailing, Marahau (Abel Tasman) - everything

Lake Aviemore Camping and Social Sailing + Fun Races 1-3 Jan
Lake Aviemore has traditionally been a great sailing and camping spot over the holidays. It works in thermal conditions and drags anything from a NE to a S, along the valley and straight down the lake. Windsurfers and kiters camp usually on the northern side. At the “Waitangi” camp area near the “Boat ramp” signs, Dunedin and Southern Lakes sailors are usually a little west of the boat ramp area, drive off the road head back west, look for the 5kms sign and then head for the water.. you should see boards around and about. Some sailors will be there all over Xmas and New Year, for those just wanting to go for a few days….New Year is the main focus & there will be some fun windsurf racing over that time. If you don’t want to camp you can often find accommodation at Oamarama about 30mins away or possibly find a bach to rent at Otemata 15mins.

Think about this as an option for Xmas/New Year, there's always lots of windsurfers and kiters camping there. Very social.

Marahau Camp. Jan 17th – 24th. (Start of Abel Tasman)
Camp at Marahau either in the dorms or your own tents (to avoid snoring hassles !). Its an outdoor education centre right over the road from the beach….communal kitchen/lounge, toil/shower block, fire pit, big field for camping.. usually around $12pp/night. Awesome location. A very nice mixed group of people, often quite a few kiters and windsurfers, but access to good terrain for SUP, kayak, hike, bike, tramp .. soo much so near. Can go for part week. Call Sue for more info if interested.
