Southern Lakes Watersports news Feb 2019

Well its certainly been a mixed bag of weather this summer but I hope most of you have been getting out on the water and making the most of it.. If not time to dust off your gear and join in some of the events.. and the clubs social Frankton Wednesdays (Jan- March. 4-8.30pm).

23/24th Feb. WOMENS WEEKEND at Lake Clearwater near Christhcurch. Its a fair drive but worth it. Lots of fun and a special party on the Saturday. Camping or join in the shared accomodation. See attached leaflet.
2nd March. The following weekend I am hoping for wind to have a GLENORCHY DAY OUT... a social sail, and then you are all invited to a birthday BBQ/Pot luck at an Outdoor Lodge about 1km back towards Queenstown. Off the Mount Judah walking trails car park.. follow the balloons ! Bring partners/friends. Then.... back into town to the Glenorchy Hotel for an awesome Jazz/funk band " Alpine Funkline" from Wanaka.. bring your dancing shoes. :)

9th / 10th March. Waterbourne Weekend at Wellington a fun event for those prepared to travel.

In the meantime the club continues to campaign on access issues at our main sailing sites;
Glenorchy; New car park is installed no longer direct beach access but the club has a removable bollard we can use to access our old parking/rigging spot. Currently we're working on a padlock with combination numbers, some no parking signs' for the bollards and installing some launching/landing posts for kiters in the delta area.
Mount Creighton; 3 X signs to try to keep the public out of our launch /land area. Just getting final approval from DOC.
Jardines. A similar sign has been designed and approved for Jardines. Although we oppose in principle the new marina and development and are keeping an eye out to see if it is notified, in which case we'll submit comments. The club however have also worked on amending the landscapers plans for the new development in case it does get through, so that kiters and windsurfers are not excluded and can launch and land safely.

Hope you are all good,

Sue. Commodore.
