Patrick Haybittle - NZL 308 - Day 1 of the RS:X Youth Worlds Civitacecchia Italy.

After several days training with the Hong Kong, Polish then Israel teams and getting used to the location and conditions, Patrick has started the regatta. Day one had good winds, and, as you can see from the picture of Pat off the pin end of the start line , big swell. Pat is over 6 foot tall, standing on a board, and I can't see him!! He says there are a lot of very good, very strong sailors. I asked what he though he would need to do to improve his sailing there, he said "bigger muscles". Better have another couple of weetbix mate!

Pat really enjoyed the first day's racing and is happy with with how he finished the day. He is currently exactly 1/2 way through the fleet in 41st position. Not bad for a Kiwi 14 year old sailing with the big boys for the first time! It's a long way to go yet in the 6 day regatta so here's hoping for good fast sailing conditions.

Big D has made friends with the locals at the club and by being there early and helping with set up I think he is also being well looked after. He has been taking photos and putting them on the regatta facebook page along with other photographers.
Have a look at https://www.facebook.com/rsxyouthworlds for updates and some great photos on and off the water.

This is an incredible experience for Pat and an amazing opportunity to train and race against the world's best. He can only get better from this and is pumped at "being there and doing it", making friends and giving it everything he's got. Thank you so much to all who have helped him.
Go Team Kiwi!!!!!
