Patrick Haybittle - Another update from Civitaceccha Italy and the RS:X Youth Worlds

After days 2 racing in tough choppy conditions Pat is still right on mid fleet. Pat posted his best result, a 15th in his fleet of 40 in the last race, race 6. He has been very consistent with his placings just above and below the mid fleet. The first drop has come in and the dropped OCSs and DSQs shuffled some results and pushed Pat down one spot to 42nd out of 80. Day 3 was a rest day. Well deserved after all the training, practice race day and 2 hard days, so Pat and Big D headed to Rome on the train for a look around. They had a guided tour of the Colosseum, wandered the Roman Forum and had lunch by a 1300BC obelisk. Both are blown away by the age of the city. Dinner was a pizza night at the yacht club back in Civitavecchia.

Day 4 bought thunder storms in from the south. Racing was delayed as the storm sat overhead. Torrential rain and very close lightening kept the sailors ashore. With a mandatory one hour stand down after a lightening storm, time ran out so no racing. Pat spent the day just hanging with the Polish, British and Israeli teams in the club cafeteria out of the rain.

Today the fleets head out split into Gold and Silver. Unfortunately for Pat the split was one place ahead of him so he just missed the Gold Fleet, but he hits the water today as the leader of the Silver Fleet. The challenge has been laid down now to stay there!! Light winds are forecast and sailing starts earlier today. Fingers crossed for another day of consistent sailing with the fleet behind him.

Go Team KIWI!!!
