New Zealand Slalom Nationals & Formula 42 Slalom Oceanics

Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 09:00 - Sunday, February 20, 2011 - 17:00

Repeat of the well organised and popular event with the added bonus of including the Oceanic Formula 42 class as well.

Windsurfers can travel at speeds up to 100kph. Slalom is the fastest form of windsurfer racing with groups of sailors competing on a downwind zig-zag course around a series of bouys. Equipment is essentially unlimited so sailors push the limits as hard as they dare. This event is also part of the IWA Oceanic series Formula 42 which limits sailors to a maximum of 2 boards and 4 sails for the event. New Zealand has world ranking sailors in this discipline and some overseas competitors are also expected. The venue in Dunedin harbour is well suited for this event and provides plenty of places for spectators.
