New Zealand Formula Windsurfing Nationals 2016 – Manly

The Formula Windsurfing Nationals 2016 took place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th March 2016. Also running alongside was the Raceboard, RS:X and Techno North Island Champs.
Brett Morris continued what is becoming a tradition and travelled from Australia to compete in the event, he borrowed equipment from Barry Thom who unfortunately wasn’t able to compete, but Brett did the equipment proud and upheld the Aussie reputation winning the event overall with Tim Wood (Gaastra) snapping at his heals only finishing 1 point behind and taking out the National Title. From another write up I’ve read, the Team 10 boys were smashing it, but the only thing I can remember them smashing was Jack smashing his North boom and having to borrow a boom from the Gaastra boys………… They both did well with Jack Holliday (Starboard & North) finishing 3rd overall and taking out the open men and Luke Holliday (Starboard & North) finished 5th overall and 1st youth. Chris Bolt (Gaastra) got off to a bad start being DSQ in the first race for sailing the wrong course, but he finished 6th overall and 1st Master. Cat Chimney was so eager to get the event underway that she jumped the start in the first race and was OCS, she finished 8th overall and was the first women. Ian Young and Ross Smith were 2nd and 3rd Grand Masters behind the overall winner.
I’m not sure if anything happened in the North Island Champs as Jo Mackenzie and I were shoe shopping….. We’ll that’s where the boat crew think we go.
I do have the results so congratulations to Lauren Mackenzie for winning the RS:X, Alex Van der Zlam for winning the Raceboard and Max Van der Zlam for winning the Techno.
