Windsurfers have achieved speeds approaching 100kph. Slalom is the fastest form of windsurfer racing, with groups of sailors competing on a downwind zig-zag course around a series of buoys and routinely reaching speeds in excess of 60 kph. Equipment is essentially unlimited, so sailors push the limits as hard as they dare. New Zealand has world ranking sailors in this discipline and some overseas competitors are also expected.

Traditionally the Windsurfing NZ AGM is held during the Windsurfing Nationals (21-23 January), this year in Christchurch. The date and time are nominal as it has been found in previous years that the easiest way to run the AGM is to slot it in during event downtime - it is not practical to have it while racing is on, not popular or appropriate to halt racing for the meeting, and attendance is best if we schedule it while members are waiting for racing to start.
Minutes of the previous AGM, and agenda and any other material will be posted here soon, and notified on Facebook.

One function of Windsurfing NZ is to represent and advocate on behalf of windsurfers, or in the case of the South Island clubs, windsports enthusiasts :-). In keeping with this a submission has been made in regard to the above bylaw proposal. The main thrust of the submission is that (a) a compromise solution is possible, with reference to the Ruakaka Beach issue (read the submission), and (b) it's better to have users with a vested interest active in the area to help police any bylaws, rather than ban everyone and have little or no monitoring.

Dear Sir/Madam,

PROPOSED NORTHERN PEGASUS BAY BYLAW 2015

The Northern Pegasus Bay Bylaw controls activities on the beaches located within the Waimakariri District Council for the benefit and enjoyment of all users and to minimise environmental impacts arising from these activities. The beaches within the District include Kairaki, Pines, Woodend, Waikuku and Pegasus beaches.

The 2010 Bylaw has been reviewed as required by the Local Government Act 2002 and a number of changes are proposed for the Northern Pegasus Bay Bylaw 2015.

It's normal practice to hold the WNZ AGM at the Nationals as this is the one time when most of those active in the organisation are able to get together. The actual date, time and place are to be confirmed - the practical approach over the last few years is to hold the AGM during down time (which does occur) during the event, i.e. while waiting for wind ... so anyone planning to attend who will not actually be at the event needs to be aware of this and make sure we have your contact details.
