The winds are stronger, the days are longer so its time to get that windsurfer thats been lurking in your garage out. Check everything is still working and safe, and get back onto the water.

Starting with the Taranaki Wavesailing Classic, one of New Zealands biggest and most social event on the windsurfing calendar, this week will feature a number of activities around the country to mark the start of the 'windsurfing season'.

The Windsurfing NZ fundraising for the Christchurch Windsports community is approaching $2000. The final amount will be presented to the CWA at the Lake Clearwater weekend event in November so there is still time to contribute.

These are dynamic times, and we'd like you to get involved, starting with the Annual General Meeting on September 7, at The Speight's Ale House, Ferry Road, from 7:30pm. Apart from the usual committee elections, we hope to have a presentation on the state of the estuary, plus it's a great opportunity to catch up and discuss places to sail.

Almost $12 million was committed yesterday by the Government, Environment Canterbury (ECan), Fonterra and Ngai Tahu, to be spent on measures including native planting, fencing and scientific research. Speaking yesterday at the tiny Ngati Moki Marae near Ellesmere's edge, Environment Minister Nick Smith said the focus would be on reducing nutrients from agricultural runoff, which would require a tougher approach on rogue farmers. Some lakeside land would have to be bought, he said.

Big Chip In for ChristchurchThis unique book is being auctioned by Windsurfing NZ to raise funds in support of the Canterbury windsurfers who have suffered in the earthquakes.

The book has been donated by Neil Pryde and has a personal message from Neil.

" Be strong Christchurch. Our thoughts are with you. Look to the future, the wind will still blow! Neil"
