Canterbury Windsports Association news

Predictions of a late winter have been dispelled, and I've already been on two snow kite missions! No matter that on each trip at least one of the key ingredients was missing (first snow, then wind), but the second trip to Tekapo over Queen's Birthday (picture below), was pretty awesome.

Even though it's winter, the CWA committee is soldiering on, and would like to encourage you get out and stay active. So, if you're planning a winter holiday or escape, don't forget to support our sponsors:

Annie Crombie at the Merivale HOUSE of TRAVEL for travel advice and bookings. Ph 03-355 2200 or email:

Al Taylor at GROUNDSWELL at 1030 Ferry Rd for & kite windsurf advice & gear for trips to warmer climes, especially MAUI. You might have to track him down there... Ph 03 384 5086.

Tim Stockman at KITESPORTS at 950b Ferry Rd for advice & gear covering all kite disciplines, and especially SNOWKITING lessons & trips to Wanaka. Ph 03 384 5310, Mobile: 021 542 770 or email:

If you do have some winter windsports adventures, don't forget to share them on either the CWA website news or forums, or the CWA Facebook page.

CWA MEMBERSHIP is coming due for renewal (the membership year being July 1-June 30), so those of you who were financial members in 2009-10 AND supplied me with an email address can expect an automatic email reminder to pay for the 2010-11 year. Hopefully it's easier than last year, and again payments can be made online via PayPal or Bank Transfer. Cash is also acceptable - you'll just have to fill in a membership form and post to the secretary, or find a committee member. We also expect to be doing a mailout - probably pre AGM in September.

Have a good winter,
