Earthquakes, snowstorms, and now flooding - 2011 has been memorable for all the wrong reasons (well, snowkiting on the beach was pretty cool), so here's wishing for a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

The Beginners Windsurf School scheduled for this weekend 17 December has been cancelled due to today's heavy rainfall and the need to avoid the estuary for 48 hours due to stormwater runoff. This is the normal advice from Christchurch City Counil and District Health Board, and is even more important post earthquake.

Following our successful Lyttelton Discovery Day the CWA would like to back this up with our Lyttelton Intro Day on Sunday December 11. Meet at the launch ramp from 12 pm. An easterly is forecast so conditions should be ideal. A briefing will be held for new sailors to the harbour and we will endeavour to pair up experienced sailors with new sailors for advice and support. Great to see as many windsurfers and kiteboarders there as possible to support another great CWA event. http://www.cwa.org.nz/portal/index.php?option=com_redevent&view=eventlis...

You are invited to participate in the project by completing this electronic questionnaire.
The aim of the project is to take a snapshot of the following-
What do recreational users (e.g. wind surfers, walkers, shell fish collectors) of the Avon-Heathcote Estuary/Ihutai know about microbiological water pollution
What factors influence their decisions about water quality to undertake recreational activity
To what extent do recreationists utilise information provided by sources such as the regional council and recreation clubs.
As a recreational user of the Avon-Heathcote Estuary/Ihutai (the Estuary) over the age of 16 years, participation in this project will involve the completion of this online survey that should not take any longer than 10-15 minutes.
