Nelson kitesurfers concerned about logs barging in

A plan to barge logs from Rabbit Island to Port Nelson has some major hurdles ahead if it is to get over the start line. Owner-manager of Kitesurf Nelson Shane Anderson said Blind Channel (the proposed route) represented about 80 per cent of the area allocated for use by kitesurfers. Not being able to use it would have a huge impact on the sport which recognised the channel as one of the best spots in New Zealand for kitesurfing.

A Nelson kitesurfer who lost his kite in gusty winds triggers search

A Nelson kitesurfer who lost his kite in gusty winds at Tahunanui Beach yesterday afternoon is embarrassed he prompted a pointless search operation. The Nelson Surf Life Saving Club and a Nelson City Council launch warden were sent to search for a supposed kitesurfer in the rough water near Rocks Rd, after the kite was spotted in the sea. Moral: If you lose gear on or near the water, report it so it doesn't trigger a search call-out.

Marine farms to grab four times current area under fast tracked rules

Although it is claimed that only 0.02% of the New Zealand coastline is taken for sea farms, as can be seen from the map, this area overlays some of New Zealand's finest cruising grounds and the grab of sea space proposed by the group will be a quadrupling of the size of sea farms in these cruising grounds and sheltered bays.
