Life's a breeze - windsurf into summer

The winds are stronger, the days are longer so its time to get that windsurfer thats been lurking in your garage out. Check everything is still working and safe, and get back onto the water.

Starting with the Taranaki Wavesailing Classic, one of New Zealands biggest and most social event on the windsurfing calendar, this week will feature a number of activities around the country to mark the start of the 'windsurfing season'.

Freestyle Nationals 2010 - wrap up

Alexander wraps up the event (big thank you to him). Not a huge turn out but great to get this event off the ground and there is obviously energy to carry it forward (breaking news, there may be another freestyle event towards the end of the season). Sail Auckland 2011 NOR published and entry open (RS:X)

New Zealand’s top Olympic campaigners will be in action on home territory and organisers extend a warm invitation to their trans-Tasman and other international rivals to take part in some exiting racing in our world class sailing waters.

Racing commences on Thursday 3rd of February at 1100 hours off Auckland’s North Shore beaches on three separate course areas for all but the Paralympic classes, which will get underway the following day on a course on Auckland’s Waitemata.

Purpose built accommodation for Sporting teams. Situated in a hub of sports facilities on site and in the local region, the Millennium Institute is located 5-10 minutes from a myriad of sporting venues.

National Freestyle Champs day 1

Long day on the water today, total of 7 heats sailed and top three after the first day are: 1. Thomas Davies 2.Tom Taylor 3.Pete Smith
Conditions were 5.3-5.8 weather, gusty at times but overall pretty good. Yes, entry numbers are a bit low, but hey we are just starting something here....If you don't do something it's never gonna happen! Location for tomorrow is Pt Chev and skippers meeting is set at 9.30am

AWA party and prize giving (Freestyle Nationals)

We’re kicking the season off with a party to celebrate all that wind that we’ve just had combined with the prize giving for the Freestyle Nationals on Saturday night. If you’re planning on coming can you please let me know so that we can cater for the right number of people.

In 2009 yachties dominated at the Harbour Sports Excellence Awards, taking out four Awards, and nominations are now open for 2010.
