ISAF Olympic Committee about to shoot itself in the foot over kiteboards and windsurfers?

Will ISAF get trapped by political concessions for 2016 ?
A lot has been written about the ISAFs Olympic Commissions report and the resulting Executive Committee submission in the last weeks. This opinion piece from Sail-World.com echoes comments made to the same publication by Windsurfing NZ which so far have been unacknowledged.

Sailing at the Olympics - event choice may be between a windsurfer and a kite-board

Only three of the current ten Olympic yachting classes are reasonably assured of a place in the start line for Brazil in 2016. The RS:X Board will have to undergo a double trial if it is to remain in 2016. The Board/Kite-board would be chosen after Evaluation Trials. A regional imbalance (areas like Oceania and Africa not well represented), poor spectator and TV audiences, and competition for places with new sports such as golf and rugby are all drivers behind the moves to reduce and possibly remove sailing from the Olympics. These factors were highlighted in the WNZ submission to SPARC for funding.

A Nelson kitesurfer who lost his kite in gusty winds triggers search

A Nelson kitesurfer who lost his kite in gusty winds at Tahunanui Beach yesterday afternoon is embarrassed he prompted a pointless search operation. The Nelson Surf Life Saving Club and a Nelson City Council launch warden were sent to search for a supposed kitesurfer in the rough water near Rocks Rd, after the kite was spotted in the sea. Moral: If you lose gear on or near the water, report it so it doesn't trigger a search call-out.
