Investment in Outdoor Recreation - the next step for Windsurfing NZ

What outcomes are being sought?
SPARC is seeking applications that will ultimately lead to increased long-term participation by young people, through:
1. improving organisational capability that leads to more effective service delivery;
2. improving national leadership to better co-ordinate delivery of outdoor recreation;
3. developing skills and knowledge to participate in outdoor recreation, by deliverers of opportunities.
SPARC is not seeking proposals to create more participation opportunities, unless they address at least one of the three outcomes referred to above. Read on ...

NZL Sailing Team introduced, including RS:X windsurfing sailors

The Governor General, sponsors and friends of Yachting New Zealand were today introduced to members of the NZL Sailing Team at a team launch in Auckland.

2010 Delta Lloyd Regatta underway - JP 6th in RS:X windsurfing

Racing started overnight in Medemblik, the Netherlands for New Zealand sailors competing at the 2010 Delta Lloyd Regatta. Jon-Paul Tobin (pictured left) represents New Zealand in the 100-strong Men’s RS:X fleet. In racing last night the North Shore board sailor started off with a seventh place in race one followed up with two fifths in races two and three. At the end of the first day of the series Tobin’s pointscore is 17 and putting him in sixth place in the standings. Mashiah Nimrod of Israel has the early lead in the class.

2010 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team announced to compete at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.

Yachting New Zealand has today announced twelve sailors selected for the 2010 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team to compete at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships. The annual regatta, commonly referred to as the Youth Worlds, will this year take place in Istanbul, Turkey from 8th to 17th July. Team includes Male RS:X – Oliver Gunman, Takapuna Boating Club (Age 17 years) Female RS:X – Georgia Schofield, Takapuna Boating Club (Age 16 years)

USA plan to reboot youth windsurfing backs up Windsurfing NZ approach

This recent interview with Nevin Sayre demonstrates how lucky NZ has been so far to be as successful as we have been on the International scene, particularly at the Olympics. The interview confirms not only the recent resurgence in windsurfing but also outlines the strategies for getting more kids into windsurfing and more success in competition. YNZ Briefings: RS:X and Techno reports

2008 Olympic Gold medallist Tom Ashley (pictured left) convincingly won the 2010 New Zealand Men’s RS:X National Championships at Manly Sailing Club. This secures the double for Ashley who also won the Men’s RS:X at Singapore Airlines Sail Auckland.

Aquaculture Technical Advisory Group Report: Summary of Submissions published

Yachting New Zealand: In the past few days the Ministry of Fisheries has released both a summary of submissions and copies of all 223 submissions made in relation to the Technical Advisory Group’s Report to ‘Restart Aquaculture’. It was pleasing to see the large number of strong and well-argued submissions from the recreational boating sector and other aligned groups.
