National Ocean Water Sports Centre, Project Information Evening, Takapuna War Memorial Hall, 29th July, 2010, 4pm – 6pm
The Harbour Access Trust, North Shore City Council and Central Government are working towards putting Takapuna on the world stage as a venue for sailing and other ocean sports by developing the National Ocean Water Sports Centre on The Strand. On Thursday 29th July between 4pm and 6pm representatives will be present at Takapuna War Memorial Hall for the first o a number of public sessions to highlight progress on the project.

North Shore to host Sail Auckland 2011

Sail Auckland, the only ISAF Grade 1 regatta for Olympic classes in New Zealand, will be sailed from Auckland’s North Shore in 2011. Agreement has been reached between Sail Auckland Regatta Inc and the Takapuna Boating Club, which has been granted rights to host the 2011 regatta to take place from February 3rd to February 6th.

Race management seminars are targeted at anyone interested in learning or improving the knowledge and skills required to undertake any of the on the water duties to run round the buoys type yacht races. The course is suitable for beginners who want to know more, those with some experience on start boat or mark boat, those who have some experience as a race officer, those who wish to seek qualification as a Club Race Officer or National Race Officer and those very experienced wishing to revalidate.

YNZ Courses - Race Management Seminars, Club Instructor Courses & Club Safety Boat Operator

Race management seminars are targeted at anyone interested in learning or improving the knowledge and skills required to undertake any of the on the water duties to run round the buoys type yacht races. The Club Instructor Course qualifies you to teach the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail Dinghy course. Thanks to the Auckland Regional Council’s Coastal Enhancement Fund Yachting New Zealand is able to provide Club Safety Operator Driver courses to yacht clubs in the Auckland region at a heavily subsidised rate.

YNZ seeks two sailing instructors for North Island Have A Go programme

Yachting New Zealand is looking to employ two qualified sailing instructors for the Northern and Central regions of the Sailing…Have a Go! programme. The Northern region involves travel through Auckland and Northland. The Central Region position encompasses the lower North Island, Wellington to Hamilton and across to Gisborne. This is a contract position commencing September 2010 and continuing through until mid April 2011.

Details of New Zealand National Ocean Water Sports Centre announced

Takapuna Beach was today confirmed as the venue for the National Ocean Water Sports Centre (NOWSC) by the Minister of Sport and Recreation the Hon. Murray McCully and North Shore City Mayor, Andrew Williams. Speaking at the nearby Takapuna Boating Club, the Minister confirmed that the $8million facility would cater for Sailing, Triathlon and Ocean Kayaking. The area is also used for a myriad of other ocean sports including ocean swimming, kite surfing, surfboats and surfing.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation, Murray McCully will outline the details on a new National Ocean Sports Centre on Monday afternoon. Today the NZ Prime Minister, John Key, announced a raft of Government spending initiatives on High Performance Sport, this morning at the Millennium Centre, on Auckland's North Shore.
