Actions and Advice on Aquaculture

Yachting New Zealand has received a lot of feedback from our recent position paper on aquaculture. It is great that while publicising the issues and our position on this subject that we are also raising awareness.

YNZ encourage clubs to get in contact with their regional council to see how they can have input in to the process. This could be done in a number of ways including suggesting changes to the Regional Coastal Plan, being added to the Interested Parties list for new applications, or making submissions on applications in your area.

Yachting New Zealand on Aquaculture

Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) feels it is timely to reiterate its position on aquaculture development. This is due to the passing of the Aquaculture Legislation Amendment Bill earlier this year and the increasing number of significant new applications for marine farms being made which are causing serious concern.

Yachting New Zealand seeks to ensure that:
Aquaculture development takes place in areas where there will be no adverse effect on the community’s access to the coastal marine area (CMA) for recreational use.

YNZ Selection Policy for 2012 ISAF Youth Worlds

The 2012 Regulation for Selection to the 2012 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team to attend the ISAF Youth Worlds Sailing Championship has come into effect on November 1st 2011. This regatta is the world’s premier sailing event for youth sailors, and New Zealand sailors may be selected to attend if they meet the requirements of this regulation. Sailors who will be under 19 on 31 December 2012 are invited to review the selection policy and review which NZ events are nomination regattas and included in the selector’s consideration process. Grant Beck-windsurfing coach, is Sailor of the Year: 2011 Yachting Excellence Awards

Grant Beck is the most successful New Zealand Olympic Coach, ever. He has been the coach and mentor behind the outstanding success of New Zealand windsurfing Olympians, and many other sailors on the world stage. Beck's twenty five year Olympic Windsurf Coach record includes seven Olympic medals (three of which are Gold), where he was the mastermind and confidant to Bruce Kendall, Barbara Kendall, Aaron McIntosh and most recently, Tom Ashley.

YNZ survey -

Yachting New Zealand is asking for your views on the best method of attributing Affiliation Levies to Clubs. This survey should take less than 5 minutes and at the end, provide your contact information if you want to be in the draw to win a YNZ Softshell Jacket (pictured left). Winners will be drawn on completion of the survey, 23 October 2011.
Note that Windsurfing NZ is a class member of YNZ, not an affiliated club.

YNZ Bi-annual survey of clubs on its performance makes interesting reading

WNZ managed to get one question into the latest survey about windsurfing, and out of 85 clubs that replied 2 offered junior windsurfing instruction and 1 offered adult instruction. Ironically the perceived most successful strategic goal is winning medals (sic). Retention and growing membership in the youth age group (15-25) featured highly as a priority (sic again).
