WWA - Freewave Round 3 Finale - Clayton Dougan crowned again

Awesome out of control conditions for the third and last round of the Wellington Freewave series for 2010. 40 knots plus at Lyall Bay and grunty logo southerly swell saw another reduced amount of entries. But enough for two heats, a repercharge and a final.

The Freewave returned to Plimmerton for round two of the 2010 series. Conditions were superb and the action was hot. A strong north westerly from the Tasman kindly whipped up good punchy waves for the sailors to launch off and shred to pieces. The sun bore down on those on the shore and an epic round was in the making.

In light of the new found day light hours we are going to start a gathering of sailors on Thursdays at the ditch (Evans Bay). The idea is to have a regular time to meet after work for a session at the ditch and get all levels sailing together. For now it will just be fun sailing. With time we will look at the possibility of a few friendly races or freestyle sessions.

Wellington Wave Champs / Freewave Round 1

The Wellington Wave Champs 2010 (also the first round of the freewave) was held today at Plimmerton in some pretty extreme conditions at times. The surf was large for plimmy with shoulder to head high waves breaking on the shore and it was windy. The gusts in excess of 40 knots with most sailors battening down the hatches on flat 4.0s.
