Southern Lakes Wind Riders Club

Southern Lakes Windriders news

We had a great Open Day last week. Thanks for all the club helpers. We signed up 12 new members and introduced a whole heap of new people to the sport.. and were then rewarded with a very windy day at Glenorchy the next day for all the volunteers to have their fun.

This weekend. South Coast.
Forecast looking good at this stage for Sat and possibly Sun. Gavin is keen to help people out who maybe haven't been in the waves before. The hotel/backpackers at Colac Bay is a cheap friendly local place to stay. Anyone interested ring Gavin 021994139.

Glenorchy Fun Weekend. 6/7th December.

Southern Lakes Windriders news

Hope you're getting out on the water in these wild westerlies....gusty but fun. Few events coming up....

Open Day and Car Boot Sale. Sat 8th Nov. 11-3pm
Frankton Beach (Down by the BBQ area/Toilet block).
We'd love as many club members as possible to come along and help encourage new people into the sports. we'll have some baby and training kites there along with lots of windsurf gear to give people a go. We need helpers for windsurf instruction, kite flying help, saussie cooks for the BBQ and general smiley faces to tell newbies about the sports or about the club and where to sail.

Windsurfing and kiting social get-together. Repeat of a great event. Simple across the lake and back race series for Windsurfers and Kiters. Think about this as an option for Xmas/New Year, there's always lots of windsurfers and kiters camping there. Very social.
Possibility of and Upwind/Downwind race as well on New Years eve.

Southern Lakes Wind Riders news update March 2014

It was a windy February with the Southerly a Westerly flows over Queenstown bringing some great conditions to have a blast in. Every sailing spot on the lake has filled with some solid winds 15 + knots with Jardines producing some of the strongest winds so far this season. Frankton Beach has been on a few days when the Southerly hitting Jardines was too strong.

Southern Lakes Wind Riders news Oct/Nov 2013 - We're back!

Hi all,

Hope you're getting out on the water.. or at least dusting off the gear ready. These consistent North Westerlies are making Glenorchy, Hawea and Wanaka popular places to sail, at the weekends especially and I hear there are a few getting out at Frankton too. Good on you . The waters pretty good (except immediately after new rain), though the shorelines are rather reduced with little rigging area at some spots.

We had our AGM last week and for those who couldn't make it the notes are attached, do please read ! Lots of fun things planned.
