Scott Park Launch Area ACCESS

Work, expected to take two years (pre-earthquake Sept 2010), has started on the Ferrymead Bridge, with contractor site access signs going up at the northern entrance to Scott Park, just below the bridge in the MPYC/MPBC car park. City Council Project Leader Peter Rivers says that the contractor requires access along the paper road beside the estuary to their site from the Northern entrance. So long as windsurfers do not block that access, they can continue to park and rig up at Scott park, although this doesn't preclude the contractor from restricting access at other times, but lets hope this is during the week.

Clean up the World event, which was scheduled for Sept 5, as we were about two weeks ahead of the Rest of the World, and the council. It's officially Sept 18-19, so we'll aim for that weekend too, maybe Saturday, or if wet and miserable then Sunday. Fellow Club Kiteboard and Windsurf Members, WE NEED YOUR HELP!This new and exciting event on our calendar will be run from the Linwood Avenue car park with competitor registration from 10 am Saturday. Saturday Night we'll be at Winnie Bagoes in Ferrymead for an evening of gay repartee, and Sunday at the Ferry Speights Ale House for the prizegiving. The Club needs your help to run this event - we hope you can help with registrations, beach marshall, car parking and gate access, BBQ, first aid, WS learner and kite flying supervision.

IMPORTANT: Windsurf South Island Cup Round 1 POSTPONED

The Windsurf South Island Cup Round 1 scheduled to run in Christchurch on Saturday and Sunday November 27 and 28 2010 has been deferred until an appropriate date after the Christmas holidays.

This is due to high tide at 9am Saturday and 10 am Sunday meaning the Estuary is not a viable venue as the water will be too low by the time and if the wind comes up, and I am told there may be little interest from local competitors if we shift to Lyttelton Harbour or Lake Ellesmere. Lyttelton is also difficult to set a course.

Clearwater @ Show Weekend:

Classic nor'west weather made for happy CWA campers at Lake Clearwater over Show Weekend. Friday and Saturday were calm & sunny in the morning, and windy and sunny in the afternoon. Sunday saw the nor'wester die away, only to be replaced by a cooler sou'west change. Three days of action in this fantastic mountain location took me five days back in the office to recover!

The winds are stronger, the days are longer so its time to get that windsurfer thats been lurking in your garage out. Check everything is still working and safe, and get back onto the water.

Starting with the Taranaki Wavesailing Classic, one of New Zealands biggest and most social event on the windsurfing calendar, this week will feature a number of activities around the country to mark the start of the 'windsurfing season'.
