Health warning lifted in Lyttelton Harbour and Taylors Mistake

The Community and Public Health division of Canterbury District Health Board has lifted the health warning at Taylors Mistake and in Lyttelton Harbour. Environment Canterbury has been monitoring a range of sites over the last six weeks following the February 22 earthquake to track levels of bacteria contamination.

Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Dr Alistair Humphrey says water in both these areas is now suitable for recreational use.

It's a difficult time we are going through and I hope with all my heart that you and your families are all in good health. Sorry it's been a lackluster end to the season but you can rejoice in the fact that Spring is only 7 months away. - Russell.

Upcoming events & changes:

CWA Dash for Cash

The Canterbuy Kiteboarding Champs are likely to held at Lake Ellesmere on Saturday due to forecast southerly winds.

We will attempt to run the "Dash For Cash" at Lake Ellesmere sometime Saturday afternoon.

If this does not eventuate, and the wind plays ball (easterlies forecast for Sunday) the "Dash For Cash" will be run on the Estuary during Sunday afternoon.

CWA - help needed to run Estuary Blast

Fellow Club Kiteboard and Windsurf Members, WE NEED YOUR HELP!This new and exciting event on our calendar will be run from the Linwood Avenue car park with competitor registration from 10 am Saturday. Saturday Night we'll be at Winnie Bagoes in Ferrymead for an evening of gay repartee, and Sunday at the Ferry Speights Ale House for the prizegiving. The Club needs your help to run this event - we hope you can help with registrations, beach marshall, car parking and gate access, BBQ, first aid, WS learner and kite flying supervision.

CWA - Sport Canterbury Estuary Blast ready to rock'n'roll!


The CWA (Canterbury Windsports Association) & Sport Canterbury bring the 'Sport Canterbury Estuary Blast' to the Christchurch Estuary on December 18th & 19th.
This is a Windsurf & Kitesurf course racing event culminating in the 'Estuary Blast' which will have top windsurfers & kitesurfers ALL IN OPEN racing across the water!
We'll have FREE Stand Up Paddle demos, plus Kite & Windsurf Clinics for the public to check out our awesome...
$1000 up for grabs for the fastest riders in the Estuary Blast! Ferrymead Community getting in behind the event with heaps of prizes for prizegiving!!

The winds are stronger, the days are longer so its time to get that windsurfer thats been lurking in your garage out. Check everything is still working and safe, and get back onto the water.

Starting with the Taranaki Wavesailing Classic, one of New Zealands biggest and most social event on the windsurfing calendar, this week will feature a number of activities around the country to mark the start of the 'windsurfing season'.

The Windsurfing NZ fundraising for the Christchurch Windsports community is approaching $2000. The final amount will be presented to the CWA at the Lake Clearwater weekend event in November so there is still time to contribute.

These are dynamic times, and we'd like you to get involved, starting with the Annual General Meeting on September 7, at The Speight's Ale House, Ferry Road, from 7:30pm. Apart from the usual committee elections, we hope to have a presentation on the state of the estuary, plus it's a great opportunity to catch up and discuss places to sail.
