Inaugural AWA Camping Weekend

The inaugural AWA camping weekend has been scheduled for 15,16 and 17 March at http://mangawhaiheadsholidaypark.co.nz/.

This is a very family oriented event with supping, windsurfing, surfing and maybe some racing if the wind cooperates. Mangawhai is only 1:15 hrs away from Auckland and has harbour and ocean side sailing catering for all levels of sailing. We will have some demo's and clinics and there is plenty to do to keep the kids entertained.

North Island Cup Slalom Champs 2013

The AWA together with the Manly Yacht Club and Windsurfing New Zealand are pleased to bring you the North Island Cup for Slalom.

This will be a one-event competition held on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 February 2013 at Manly Beach Whangaparaoa Auckland.

This event will be held together with the RXS and Techno Nationals and Formula racing, also competing on Friday 15 February.

Another exciting weekend of racing is coming up in Auckland on the 4th (This Sunday)!! Lets hope the wind plays its part! We are looking at running it at Farm Cove so stay tuned! I have attached an image of the great event we last had there.

NorthSails team rider Laurence Carey (Team 10 / NZL-252) from New Zealand won the Auckland Slalom Series. Luke Watson and Jack Holiday placed second equal, Dave Law 4th and Tim Woods 5th. Click through for the full results.

Auckland Slalom Series 2012-13

The Auckland Slalom Series 2012-13 is organised by the Auckland Windsurfing
Association and sanctioned by Windsurfing NZ Inc.
The series is a 4 race day series to be run in Auckland. The following dates have been
selected as possible race days:
9 September 2012.
7 October 2012.
4 November 2012.
18 November 2012.
9 December 2012.
Every weekend day of April and May 2013 will be used on a roll-over basis to
complete the race series, if 4 race days are not completed on the above dates.

Auckland Windsurfing Assn. 2012-2013 season events announced

With the new season is just around the corner the Auckland Windsurf Association is pleased to announce a very exciting schedule of events.

The Slalom Series will be back, Freestyle and Slalom clinics will held, a family fun day in Mission Bay, a movie night, Auckland freestyle champs, a windsurf camp in Northland, Junior Freestyle competition, long distance dash for glory races, and much more. Here is the calendar of events

9 September - Slalom Race day 1.
7 October - Slalom Race day 2.
17 October - Movie Night at Berkley Cinema in Takapuna
4 November- Slalom Race day 3.

Learn to Windsurf - Start Windsurfing Course
This Windsurfing course is the perfect introduction for juniors
(8 to 18 year olds) wanting to Learn to Windsurf.
Our Beginners course will give you a great introduction to the exciting sport of windsurfing.
During your course you will learn how to sail across the wind, you will learn how to tack and how to launch, set up and look after your kit.

Just a reminder that the AWA youth slalom clinic is on this Saturday at Takapuna beach. 11am start time, and we hope to finish around 2pm (with a lunch break in the middle) but it depends on the wind.

This event is for all windsurfers under the age of 18. Come and learn slalom race tricks and techniques and join in some fun racing (weather permitting). Spot prizes from the awesome Carbon Art!

Bring your own gear or hire a board/sail from Madloop Windsurfing School. (Techno, shortboard, whatever you've got will be fine.)

$10 per person, bring your own lunch.

The forecast is looking good so the Watersports South Pacific round of the 2011/12 slalom series is on this Saturday at Pt Chev. First possible race start will be at 0930 so make sure you get there early, we're going to try and get through things quickly as the tide is low mid afternoon and we also want to give everyone time to vote in the election.

The 2011 New Zealand Freestyle Nationals were once again held in Auckland with fantastic conditions and a strong group of entries.

All the way up from Wellington came Tim Haxell, Eric Torvelainen and Robert Harrison, greeted by the local Auckland freestyle scene, sunny blue sky and a building SW breeze.

Tomorrow Sat 19 Nov at Bayswater, registration starting at 9am with first possible heat at 10am. Please note that we can only accept cash. Also we won't be allowed on the grass area with cars as we had a few issues at the last slalom event. So please unload and park up on the road! The forecast is looking really good for tomorrow, so we are trying to get a result by tomorrow afternoon with an optional expression session on Sunday. The Auckland Stopover team is now recruiting volunteers to work in all areas both on and off the water before, during and after the Stopover. “We have planned a fantastic Race Village, wonderful facilities for the competing crews and a great entertainment programme for the visiting public,” says Port Director Tom Mayo. “Now we are looking for volunteers to work with us to deliver something really special.”

Sail-World's camera was down at Wakatere BC on Auckland's North Shore, at Narrowneck to catch the young sailors on the water. The club is also running a entry level windsurfing program, with oversight from a few top board sailors in the area, plus coaches. Today the windsurfing group was headed off on a cruise to Rough Rock at the entrance to the inner Waitemata Harbour.

The Harbour Access Trust in association with the Takapuna Business Association and Auckland Council are currently exploring the possibility of the development of a wharf and commuter ferry service at the Northern end of Takapuna beach. The Auckland Windsurfing Association and a number of local residents have significant environmental, safety and viability concerns about any such development and believe that the re-purposing of the Takapuna Beach Holiday Park as a pre-cursor to such a move.
