Taranaki Wave Classic 2009

Another year and another Taranaki Wave Classic! This year’s event showcased the best conditions Taranaki can offer, with an insanely epic, mast high, down-the-line, Pungarehu extravaganza!

Windsurfing options - there are more than you think!

  • Techno 293 - the 'junior' Olympic class, the ideal entry for young sailors. The skills learned here will set kids up for any kind of windsurfing, and of course there's always the possibility of yet another Olympic medal
  • RS:X Olympic - the current Olympic class board on which Tom Ashley won the Beijing Olympic Gold in 2008

Taranaki Wave Classic 2009: the home of down-the-line is now on-line at taranakiwaveclassic.com!

August 2009—Spring is fast approaching, and it’s the time of year that brings the combination of pristine south-west swells and consistent cross-offshore breezes to Taranaki, New Zealand’s home of wavesailing. New Zealand’s most popular windsurfing event, the Taranaki Wave Classic, will be held over the October Labour Day weekend (Oct 23rd–26th), bringing together sailors from all over the country (and even further afield) for a celebration of all things windsurfing.

2009 Carbon Art Rodgers Dental Wave Nationals

Yet again Taranaki played host to the countries best wave sailors all competing for their name on the coveted trophy. We left the 2008 nationals with perfectly clean 5 foot ground swell at Kina Rd. The plan for this event was to carry on from last year only bigger and better. However, 2009 started with 12 knots and waist high sets at Weld road. Unfortunately these conditions did not improve over the three days allotted to the competition.

Accommodation available for wave nationals

I see that you organisation has an event on in New Plymouth this weekend being Easter. We trust you will have a fantastic time in the 'NAKI!'!! This is just a quick note to let you know we have accommodation available, due to a very late cancellation. Our Bach (which sleeps upto 14) is available on from 2pm on Thursday the 9th to 10am on the Tuesday the 14th April, for a flat rate of $300 per night.

Taranaki Wave Classic Day 1

Super windy conditions test this years competitors yesterday The day started of with a light drenching of liquid Taranaki sunshine and glassy conditions as the early birds rocked up the the Oakura Boardriders club rooms for registration and briefing. After a bit of a chat the doors opened and we all helped Roger from Rogers Dental Studio load the 70+ entry packs stoked full of Colgate products and other goodies inside. But the real ooogeling began when the Carbon Art boards came out of the back of the van. Two lovely wave boards and a brand new Carbon Art SUP.
