The WWA Harbour Blast is on - part of the Wellington harbour Festival and supported by the Wellington Ocean Water Sports Centre. More details will be posted soon. The WWA Harbour Blast is a great fun event for all confident waterstarting windsurfers. In a northerly wind entrants sail from Petone Beach near Hikiokoi Reserve down the harbour to Eastbourne, finishing at Robinson Bay Beach near the RSA. In a southerly wind the course is reversed.

Windsurfing and kiting social get-together. Repeat of a great event. Simple across the lake and back race series for Windsurfers and Kiters. Think about this as an option for Xmas/New Year, there's always lots of windsurfers and kiters camping there. Very social.
Possibility of and Upwind/Downwind race as well on New Years eve.

Windsurfing record - Jacques van der Hout sailed 520.8 kilometres in one day

Jacques van der Hout has broken the world distance record in windsurfing after sailing 520.8 kilometres in one single day, in the Netherlands.

"For a long time I have been waiting for the perfect day to at least improve my personal distance and to set a daylight distance on windsurf equipment that was at least unbreakable by myself", says van der Hout.

Kiters and windsurfers from around the south island were delighted by the blue skies and fresh breezes on Sat to finally take part in this years long distance event from Glenorchy to Pigeon Island on Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown.

Organisers had bad luck this year with the event having a number of postponements before the conditions came right. However all were agreed it was worth the wait.

Windsurfer travels 553 km in 25 hours

THEY say you can achieve a lot in 24 hours, but only Craig Hollins can claim to have windsurfed more than 500 kilometres in a single day. The Wonthaggi windsurfer was on his board from 6.30am on Tuesday until 7.30am on Wednesday as he set the world record for distance over 24 hours. In total, he travelled 553 kilometres in 25 hours.

4. SIGNING ON & OFF THE WATER

It is critical that the organisers know at all times who is, or is not, at the race venue. In order to manage this, the following system is to be used:

a) Upon competitor registration for each days racing, you will be allocated with a metal disk. This disk will have your sail number written on it.
