Windsurfing Event safety check-out / check-in board

At the recent Eastbourne Windsurfing Fun Slalom event we trialled a check-out / check-in board system for managing safety. I first encountered this at the National Slalom event in Dunedin and it worked well, so I decided to try it here. It worked well so here's the details on how to make and use your own (total cost $6)

Windsurfing and kiting social get-together. Repeat of a great event. Simple across the lake and back race series for Windsurfers and Kiters. Think about this as an option for Xmas/New Year, there's always lots of windsurfers and kiters camping there. Very social.
Possibility of and Upwind/Downwind race as well on New Years eve.

Lancelin Ocean Classic

For the 28th consecutive year the Lancelin Ocean Classic is back in the cray fishing town of Lancelin with hundreds of competitors and spectators flocking in from 10th – 13th January 2013 for the biggest and longest running windsurfing event in Australia.

Auckland Windsurfing Assn. 2012-2013 season events announced

With the new season is just around the corner the Auckland Windsurf Association is pleased to announce a very exciting schedule of events.

The Slalom Series will be back, Freestyle and Slalom clinics will held, a family fun day in Mission Bay, a movie night, Auckland freestyle champs, a windsurf camp in Northland, Junior Freestyle competition, long distance dash for glory races, and much more. Here is the calendar of events

9 September - Slalom Race day 1.
7 October - Slalom Race day 2.
17 October - Movie Night at Berkley Cinema in Takapuna
4 November- Slalom Race day 3.

2012 Défi Wind - the race, the music, the parties, the films ...

The 2012 Défi Wind is also a true windsurf festival. There will be 15 music bands, parties and even a windsurf movie festival with exclusive footage and beautiful images from all over the world. Pro-Am Long Distance race of 25 miles in Gruissan is backed up by on-shore entertainment including a movie festival. Send them your windsurfing movie (max 6 minutes) and you could be famous, win prizes etc. 17th-20th May.

100km Westpac Rescue Challenge

Wellington Harbour

Sail 100km and support the Westpac Chopper Appeal. As part of the Westpac Chopper Appeal Bruce Spedding is planning to try windsurfing 100km in a day, weather permitting sometime during May. You could too.

Wellington Harbour Blast cancelled

Again we have been left wanting for wind. The weather forecast for this weekend is not likely to produce enough wind for the Harbour Blast and the direction is also poor very for that side of the Harbour. This is the second time this season we have tried to run this event and this time we are cancelling till next season. We were just unlucky.

WWA weekend double-header coming up!

A WWA weekend double-header coming up! - Slalom, North Island Cup on Saturday 25th Feb, followed by the Harbour Blast on Sunday 26th. Get yourself along!

Briefing: 10.30am for both events
Venue: Slalom at Eastbourne, Harbour Blast is an Eastbourne or Petone start depending on wind conditions.
Cost: $20 for Slalom North Island Cup, $35 for the Harbour Blast, or $50 for both.

The WWA Harbour Blast is on - part of the Wellington harbour Festival and supported by the Wellington Ocean Water Sports Centre. More details will be posted soon. The WWA Harbour Blast is a great fun event for all confident waterstarting windsurfers. In a northerly wind entrants sail from Petone Beach near Hikiokoi Reserve down the harbour to Eastbourne, finishing at Robinson Bay Beach near the RSA. In a southerly wind the course is reversed.
