North Island RS:X, Techno and Formula Windsurfing Champs are coming up in a couple of weeks in Rotorua. There will also be a Windsurfer Open Division and Techno will have a Green Fleet Division. Rotorua Yacht Club is putting on a Barbeque on the Saturday night for a small charge (to be confirmed) and have promised wind! It would be great to see everyone down there.

Patrick Haybittle - Another update from Civitaceccha Italy and the RS:X Youth Worlds

After days 2 racing in tough choppy conditions Pat is still right on mid fleet. Pat posted his best result, a 15th in his fleet of 40 in the last race, race 6. He has been very consistent with his placings just above and below the mid fleet. The first drop has come in and the dropped OCSs and DSQs shuffled some results and pushed Pat down one spot to 42nd out of 80. Day 3 was a rest day. Well deserved after all the training, practice race day and 2 hard days, so Pat and Big D headed to Rome on the train for a look around.

Patrick Haybittle - NZL 308 - Day 1 of the RS:X Youth Worlds Civitacecchia Italy.

After several days training with the Hong Kong, Polish then Israel teams and getting used to the location and conditions, Patrick has started the regatta. Day one had good winds, and, as you can see from the picture of Pat off the pin end of the start line , big swell. Pat is over 6 foot tall, standing on a board, and I can't see him!! He says there are a lot of very good, very strong sailors. I asked what he though he would need to do to improve his sailing there, he said "bigger muscles". Better have another couple of weetbix mate!

Young New Zealand Windsurfers bring home Gold for the Worlds women race and a set of great results for the Europeans

Great results were brought home by six teens who attended the Worlds, Europeans and Baltic Cup. The Gold Cup for the Worlds was won by Xanthe Bowater and both boys and girls were well placed in their classes.
Windsurfing is growing as a popular option for young New Zealand sailors, and New Zealand sent a group of teenagers to the European race circuit over their summer to race RS:Xs and Technos against the worlds best young talent.

Xanthe's final report on Techno293Plus success in Sopot, Poland

Hi all,
Yesterday was the last day of the World Championships in Sopot. It has been a fantastic regatta where both of us are pleased with our results. Fenella finished 56th overall (19th in silver fleet) and I finished 1st woman and 6th overall (against the men)! Very excited to be bringing home some silverware! (click through for full report)
