2011 New Zealand Freestyle Nationals - fantastic conditions and a strong competition

The 2011 New Zealand Freestyle Nationals were once again held in Auckland with fantastic conditions and a strong group of entries.

All the way up from Wellington came Tim Haxell, Eric Torvelainen and Robert Harrison, greeted by the local Auckland freestyle scene, sunny blue sky and a building SW breeze.

Wellington Freewave/Freerace next weekend

Three weeks have now past since Round 1 of the Wellington Freewave 2011 and we are looking down the barrel of Round 2 this Saturday 26 November 2011. Round 1 saw a group of dedicated sailors take to the water in Evans Bay for the freestyle round and for our first attempt to include freeracing. Conditions were light but just enough to run a race and a 30 minute expression session. http://www.wwa.org.nz/news?mode=PostView&bmi=754966

Freestyle Nationals 2011 - it's all ON!

Tomorrow Sat 19 Nov at Bayswater, registration starting at 9am with first possible heat at 10am. Please note that we can only accept cash. Also we won't be allowed on the grass area with cars as we had a few issues at the last slalom event. So please unload and park up on the road! The forecast is looking really good for tomorrow, so we are trying to get a result by tomorrow afternoon with an optional expression session on Sunday. 2011 Auckland Freestyle Champs - results and report

It was a great day for the 2011 Auckland Freestyle Champs. Due to the forecast we decided to run this years event as a Freestyle/Wave comp and we certainly weren't disappointed. 25-30 Knots NE at Takapuna with a decent swell rolling in. 12 competitors in total incl Tim and Eric who came all the way up from Wellington. Good effort boys!

Great to see that nearly half of the fleet were juniors 18 years and under. The youngest competitor, Maija at only 11 years of age showed everyone that she is determined to get to the top over the next couple of years. So watch out everyone!
